12 Week Scare

Finally 12 weeks, and finally starting to feel better. The morning/all-day sickness is starting to wane and my appetite is slowly starting to return. Both of which I am very grateful for. I'm still extremely sensitive to smells which makes working in medicine fun. I'm especially sensitive to cigarette smoke and my patients that smell like they took a bath in an ash tray... yuck!

Last weekend we were in Sunriver for our friend Dan Benson's wedding. Mason was a groomsman and was busy with wedding activities. This left me with lots of time to get our Christmas cards addressed, relax by the fire, and walk Nelly out in the snow. Luckily on Saturday our friends the Paldinos and the Seabolds were there so we went out to lunch and to Goody's! Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures but here are a couple:

Monday I was back to work and had a fairly busy morning. Sadly, my body was telling me I was pushing myself too hard and I started bleeding at work. I was scared beyond belief and immediately called my midwife's office and they told me to come in right away. I called Mason and he met me at the office. The worst case scenario kept running through my mind the entire drive from Salem back to McMinnville. Once I got there they took me right back for an ultra sound and once we saw baby's hear beat we both took a HUGE sigh of relief. In fact, baby B was super active and wiggling, kicking, and moving all around! Thank God!!

After a long ultra sound, we met with the OB (Dr. Case) and she explained that I have placenta previa, a condition where the placenta has implanted over the cervix. All of the extra stress and activity over the weekend could have caused the bleeding.
Hopefully as my uterus and baby grows, the placenta will migrate away from the cervix and I will be able to have a vaginal delivery. Dr. Case wanted me to take a few days off of work and I'm officially on "pelvic rest" (not allowed to lift or exercise, and basically have to take it really easy). Thankfully the bleeding has pretty much resolved. As long as everything continues status quo, our next ultra sound will be around 22 weeks (mid-February). Here is an ultra sound pic of our adorable little bean:

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers that baby continues to grow happy and healthy!

Seeing Positive

On October 13th, 2012 everything changed. Mason and Deano were off to go duck hunting. I was up at the crack of dawn with them, thinking this would be "the" morning to take a test (I was a few days late!). The boys left, and I took the test, not really expecting to see this:

I was crying/laughing at the same time! Then of course I was too excited fall back asleep so I had to wait a good 7 hours or so to tell Mason. When he finally got home I gave him this:

Needless to say, he was so excited. We were both in tears and he kept wanting to pick me up, and I was worried he was going to knock something loose. But that little one is stuck in there!

We had our first prenatal appointment about 3 weeks later and our first ultra sound on November 12 (luckily it was Veterans day and we both had the day off). Seeing that little heart beat for the first time made it more "real" and we were both in tears. I will never forget the ultra sound tech had pandora on and "What a Wonderful World" came on. Hormones or not, it was an emotional moment!
