Week 17

Well, I'm kind of starting to "show" (aka belly sticking out to the point its starting to get hard to suck it in all the time). So I decided to humor my 49ers fan husband in this 17-week pic. He of course picked out this shirt himself! I guess it was good luck because the 49ers won last night!!

Size of baby: Baby now measures about 5 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 5 ounces and is the size of a turnip.
  • The skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone
  • Sweat gland are starting to form
  • Heart is pumping 25 quarts of blood per day

What I'm looking forward to: Buying for baby! Mase and I have been starting to explore the wonderful (and overwhelming) world of baby gear. We were at Costco yesterday and decided to venture into Baby's r Us and boy was it overwhelming. To be honest, I was not that impressed. A lot of the stuff seems really over priced for the quality. I'm sure they mark up the prices on all things baby because they know people "need" it, or at least they want consumers to believe they "need" it. We are just trying to figure out needs vs wants and what is really essential. We are also trying to be eco conscious and not bring a lot of plasticy chemicals into our house and nursery. If you have any personal suggestions and/or recommendations on baby products and what you found essential, please leave a comment!

Milestones:  Nothing major other than I cleaned two bathrooms today and went to the grocery store without gagging (both pretty big accomplishments for me)! Ive been exhausted during the week after my long work days, but seem to be doing better on the weekends.

Sleep: Off and on but its starting to get harder to get comfortable. I have been waking up with an achey low back. Luckily I have a massage coming up this week.

Cravings: Life cereal and milk. Still loving bagels and cream cheese.

Gender: Two nights ago I dreamt we had a single ultrasound picture of a large (adult-sized) penis, and in my dream I was shocked it was a boy. Ive had other dreams where I refer to the baby as a "she".

Maternity Clothes: Best investment/splurge so far has been Pea in the Pod tanks and leggings. Their fabrics are ultra soft and worth the price.

Best Moments this past week: Starting yoga! I was able to make it to a class last Wednesday after work and it was well worth it. I was able to stretch out my back and legs and also get some relaxation. My sweet yoga instructor helped me make the right modifications for pregnancy. I have also enjoyed walks with Nelly and Mason since we've had a break from the rain (praying it lasts for a while).

Nelly wanted to get in on this action, so here we have Nelly bean and Baby bean!

Week 15 Update

Hello second trimester!! I'm a bit behind in my blog updates due to the busy holidays and a fun week off celebrating Christmas in Arizona with my family! While it was great spending time with them, it is kind of nice to get back into a routine. The first couple of days back at work were a little rough. Luckily, my morning/all day sickness is pretty much behind me so I started back to my normal work schedule (first patient at 8am instead of 8:30). This will allow me to get off earlier and hopefully back to McMinnville to get to a 5:30pm prenatal yoga class! So without further adieu, an update:

Size of baby: Baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces and is the size of an apple.
  • Baby's lungs starting to develop
  • Can move all joints and limbs
  • Can sense light
  • Taste buds are forming

Sleep: Tossing and turning a lot, trying to stay on my side. Luckily I got a body pillow which has helped some. Sill having to get up at least twice per night to use the bathroom.

Cravings: Really no strong cravings. Pineapple, Starbucks chonga bagels with cream cheese, and ice water with lemon have been some recent favorites. I was craving Taco Bell last night and regretted it within about an hour of eating it (note to self). Since my appetite is back, baby is keeping me eating every two hours or so!

Gender- Surprise! We won't be finding out until delivery day!

Movement: Still too early.

Maternity Clothes: Slowly graduating into some maternity. Even though I can still button most of my pants, its very uncomfortable so I have been wearing a belly band. My boobs are getting too big for most of my "normal" tops to look "normal". No major "bump" to speak of, but the tummy is slowly expanding.

Best Moments this past week: Spending time with family and getting some wonderful baby gifts for Christmas (including an amazing Coach diaper bag from John and Casey)! This little one is already so loved and spoiled. Also going shopping with Mason at Baby Gap outlet and scoring at the clearance rack (Mase had the best finds).

What I'm looking forward to: Starting to plan for the nursery and looking at baby furniture this weekend. A huge and fun benefit of not finding out the gender is not having to wait to plan. We are thinking of bright and fun colors such as aqua, coral, yellow, and gray. I've been having fun "pinning" to my nursery board on Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/tmbrunette/baby-b-nursery/). I found this bedding fabric combo on Etsy and am in LOVE with it:

Think we might go with this crib from PB Kids, nice and simple:White
And would love to have a big comfy chair like this one for those late-night feedings:

Milestones: I had my 15 week appointment today and baby's heartbeat was in the 150's. Since everything has been stable since my last visit at 12 weeks, I was able to schedule our next ultrasound at 20 weeks, so it's on the books for February 7th. By then we will know if the placenta has migrated up away for the cervix (praying and keeping our fingers crossed its moving). My midwife said if it has not moved, we will do another ultrasound after 3-4 weeks. If still not moving, its not likely to do so, and we will most likely be looking at a C-section. Best case scenario is things are moving by February and we can start looking into hypnotherapy birthing classes!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and is easing back into the swing of life!
