22 weeks and Valentine's Day

Last Thursday was a big day! Our "first born" turned 7 years old. Its hard to believe my little Montana fluff ball puppy has been in my life that long. I can't imagine life without her. I always joke around that since Mason came into our lives, she loves him more than she loves me! I am so excited to have her around while we raise our new baby. Some of my greatest memories growing up involve our family dogs. Most of my baby pictures include our golden retrieve Jessie; she was a true sweetheart. I know Nelly will be a great big sis!

For Valentine's day we went out to a surprise dinner. It was not a great dining experience, but afterwards I splurged on a snickers mini blizzard which was delish! Mason also surprised me with flowers and a papaya. At 22 weeks, baby is the size of a papaya. He is so cute and thoughtful! I also read that he/she will double in weight over the next 4 weeks. As my belly is getting bigger and I can feel stronger movement, the reality of this little one is becoming more and more exciting. Last Saturday we headed downtown P-town so I could get my hair cut. I really needed a change and have gotten a lot of compliments on the new bangs! On Sunday we headed to Lincoln City for an impromptu day away and walk on the beach. The weather was perfect for February.

We also signed up for hypnobirthing classes that start March 16th. My midwife suggested these classes to help with a natural birth. I don't really believe in writing a "birth plan" because from all of my experience as a nurse, I feel that they can set you up for feelings of disappointment and failure if it doesn't go as you planned. However, I would like to try to make my labor/delivery experience as calm and anxiety free as possible.

Overall, I have been feeling really good and I am enjoying this cozy Thursday off from work!

21 Weeks and over half-way there

Here we are at 21 weeks and getting bigger. 20 weeks really felt like a milestone, as I could officially consider myself half-way there. Sometimes these pictures are hard for me to take because I just don't feel very cute or pretty. I just keep telling myself there is a baby growing in there and I'm doing my best to stay healthy. One struggle I have is comparing myself to other pregnant women, especially since I know so many preggers right now (friends, co-worker, yoga class, random person on the street, etc). I'm really tyring to work through this and realize that everybody is so different. Still, its definitely a huge challenge and something I just need to "let go of".

Size of baby: Baby now measures about 8 inches long and weighs 1 pound, about the size of a spaghetti squash. Can perceive dark from light, able to grasp at things (such as the umbilical cord), and actually taste from the amniotic fluid what I have eaten.

What I'm looking forward to: I started my prenatal yoga classes. It is fun to meet some other expectant mommas here in McMinnville. I have actually been taking yoga classes over the past month and really enjoy it. We also ordered our glider/ottoman which should arrive around spring break so we are really looking forward to starting on the nursery. We have also started looking into hypnobirthing classes and the birthing class offered through the hospital.

Milestones:  We had our 20 week ultrasound last week! Unfortunately, baby was facing away from the "camera" (facing toward my spine) and we were not able to get very good pictures (no face or profile pics). They will do another ultrasound at 28 weeks to re-look at some essential structures in the heart and brain they were not able to see last week. The best news is the placenta has moved away from my cervix so I no longer have placenta previa (hopefully a c-section will not be needed)!! My OB took all the "restrictions" away, what a relief. We stuck to our plan and looked away when she was scanning the nether regions! Here are some cute pics we were able to get:

Movement: I Started feeling flutters about 2 weeks ago. Baby seems to be most active when I finally get home from work and can put my feet up. They are becoming stronger and more noticeable, kind of like a little fish flopping around in there. No quite strong enough for Dad to feel from the outside yet.

Cravings: Fruit, especially oranges. Thanks to my mom and dad for the Harry and David fruit-of-the-month membership we got for Christmas (best present ever)! Also loving Chobani yogurt, and any type of grilled meat and cheese sandos have been a go-to.

Best Moments this past week: Overall, I have been feeling pretty good (aside from a cold this week, too many sick patients).  There are so many exciting things to look forward to and I feel blessed everything has been going so smoothly. I have the best support system between the best husband and daddy-to-be, family, and close friends a girl could ask for. I still can't believe I have a little life growing inside of me.
